Scattering Amplitudes<\/h2>\n

Scattering Amplitudes is a theoretical physics research project hosted by the Max Planck Institute for Physics in Munich, Germany.<\/p>\n

Besides the honor of working for a place once run by Albert Einstein and Werner Heisenberg, I enjoyed this project immensely because it gave me the chance to consider ways to \u00a0promote the work of people who spend their time trying to figure out the fundamental building blocks of the universe itself.<\/p>\n

Scientists usually aren’t all that concerned with the stylistic presentation of ideas that are best understood through equations on a blackboard, so translating that type of research into something with some public appeal was a fascinating challenge. With the guidance of Sorana Scholtes, the communications and outreach director for the institute, I developed a look that aims to communicate the wonderment at the heart of the subject matter while still conveying the academic depth of the research being conducted. I ended up using black and white illustrations to suggest the idea of a blackboard come to life and\u00a0enlisted the help of animator Dave Whyte<\/a> whose work I’ve admired for a long time.<\/p>\n
