Thanks to everyone who voted in the Webby Awards People’s Voice competition. Unfortunately, your efforts were not nearly massive enough to beat out the social media machines operated by the likes of the BBC, Wired and NASA.

Surprisingly, however, the highly-intelligent jurors from The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences saw fit to award the 2015 Webby for Websites in the category of Science to If The Moon Were Only 1 Pixel.

To celebrate, my wife Maureen and I abandoned our children for a couple nights to visit New York and attend the awards show in the ballroom of Cipriani Wall Street. There was booze galore and an army of white-uniformed servers balancing hors d’oeuvres on silver plates, serving a four course meal, and standing outside the washrooms with those thick paper towels that feel kind of like cloth but are actually disposable.

It was fun to be a part of such a spectacle and inspiring to be in a room with so many innovative thinkers, even if most of them were drunk on free Grey Goose cocktails.

Though I had the chance to record an official 5-word speech, I would like to use a few more words to say thanks to the translators and programmers who helped with the project, as well as everyone who tweeted, liked, favorited, reddited, stumbled, shared, and otherwise enjoyed the project. Having an audience certainly makes creating stuff a lot more rewarding.
